Chasing after "Nabura"
fishing out bonito with pole and line
it's time to show off one's skill

なぶらとは、大きな魚に追いかけられた小魚たちが
魚群となって逃げまどうことにより海面が波立つことをいいます。

魚群レーダーなどがそれほど発達していない昭和の時代には、
漁師さんは、なぶらを頼りに漁場を探し当て、

ちょうど良く漁をしていたそうです。

では、そもそも...どのようにして、大海原でなぶらを探し当てたのでしょう...？

それは、なぶらにいち早く気づいて追いかける鳥の群れがあるからです。
漁師さんたちは、鳥たちの動きに注目して...なぶらを追いかけていたのですね。


そうやって探し当てた漁場で、カツオを次々と釣り上げる一本釣りは、
漁師さんの腕の見せ所です。



"Nabura" refers to waves on the surface of the sea caused by shoals of
small fish being chased by larger fish and trying to escape.

In Showa period, when fish radars were not so developed,
fishermen used "Nabura" to locate fishing grounds and fish.

So…how did they find "Nabura" in the ocean in the first place…?

That's because there are flocks of birds that quickly notice Nabura and chase after it.
The fishermen were paying attention to the movements of the birds and chasing after Nabura.

Pole-and-line fishing, where you catch skipjack tuna one after another at the fishing grounds found,
is a show of skill for fishermen.
